North Wales Magic Circle Annual Dinner & Awards

The North Wales Magic Circle recently held their annual dinner and awards ceremony at the Springfield Hotel.

As the joint presidents, it was our role to present the trophies to the well-deserved winners of the competitions that we held throughout the last year.

Jay won the Stage & Cabaret competition, and as he couldn’t present the trophy to himself it was awarded to him by Rick Tynan, president of the Northern Magic Circle.

Our final duty as presidents was to hand over the chain of office to Janet Newman-Carty, the new president of the North Wales Magic Circle. We had a great year, and hope the year ahead is just as successful for the NWMC.

Blackpool Magic Convention 2017

We visited Blackpool in February to attend the world’s largest magic convention. Over 3,000 magicians were there over the four day event.

There were plenty of lectures and shows to watch, as well as the opportunity to see the latest magic tricks being demonstrated in the two dealers halls.

The Blackpool convention is always a great place to catch up with friends and other magicians; and also a chance to meet some of the big names in magic.

One of our highlights was Paul Zenon’s “Linking Rings”, a wonderfully unique and moving performance.

We also had a little bit of fun at the Magic Circle’s stand, where Jay found out what it was like to be the assistant for a change!

We had a wonderful time, and can’t wait to go back again next year!

Mersey Dee Competition

There are lots of different magic societies all over the country. The Mersey Dee Competition is an inter-society competition, held every two years.

This year’s competition was held in Liverpool, hosted by the Liverpool Magic Circle. The other societies taking part were the Chester Guild of Magicians, the Liverpool Mahatma Magic Circle, and the North Wales Magic Circle.

Together with David Baker, Jay represented the North Wales Magic Circle in this year’s competition.

Although they didn’t win, they had a great time, and were proud to represent the NWMC.

This year’s winner was the Chester Guild of Magicians, represented by Stephen Cooil and Scott Prior.
